Fort
Ransom Sodbuster Days pays
tribute to the efforts our ancestors put forth to homestead the
land of the upper Midwest in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This
history preserving and entertaining event is held twice a year
on the Sunne Farm, located inside the Forst Ransom State Park
in southeastern North Dakota.
Teamsters
bring teams of horses to showcase the power that horses provided
to farm families on the plains. Threshing, haying, plowing, and
other fieldwork is demonstrated each day. Lefse, rommegrot, doughnuts,
and corn muffins are a few of the ethnic, farm-style foods that
are enjoyed. Visitors stop at the local blacksmith shop, see pedal-powered
woodworking, gas powered engines, a wheelwright at work, and a
Dutch oven demonstration. Outside the Sunne house, children learn
and play games that children played in the early part of the 20th
century.
The
Fort Ransom Sodbusters Association and the North Dakota Parks
and Recreation Department are continually working together to
preserve history through this event. Because
of their efforts, lessons learned and the lifestyle of our ancestors
will not be forgotten.
